A 3.5 MV Van de Graaff accelerator capalbe to produce neutrons with energies from 27 keV to 17 MeV is available at NPL. In addition, a well-characterised thermal neutron field is also available.
Relevant experience
NPL has proven experience and knowledge in production and characterisation of neutron fields, testing and calibration of neutron detectors, and neutron capture cross-section measurements in the thermal neutron fields.
Role and main tasks
NPL offers these facilities for transnational access (WP5).
Scientific and technical personnel involved
- Dr. Nigel Hawkes: Principal Research Scientist at NPL with considerable experience in providing neutron fields for detector calibrations. He participated in ERINDA transnational access activities.
